I'm Elena Bahar, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist (CST) offering telehealth therapy to individuals and couples throughout California. My practice, Mindful Desire, is built on the belief that sexuality, intimacy, and emotional wellbeing are not separate concerns — they are deeply interconnected, and they all deserve thoughtful, clinically informed care.
I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and specialized sex therapy. While sex therapy is a core area of expertise, it is one part of a broader clinical practice. Many of my California clients come to therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, or life transitions — and find that questions of identity, intimacy, and desire naturally arise within that work.
All sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Whether you are in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, the Bay Area, or anywhere else in California, you can access care from a private, comfortable space of your choosing.
Intimacy is often spoken about as though it should come naturally. Yet many people find themselves feeling disconnected from their bodies, uncertain in their relationships, confused by changes in desire, or caught in patterns that seem difficult to understand, let alone change.
Relationships can become places of profound connection, but also places where longstanding fears, unmet needs, and protective strategies emerge most clearly.
What appears on the surface as conflict, avoidance, sexual concerns, or emotional distance often reflects something deeper: the ways we have learned to seek closeness, protect ourselves from vulnerability, and make sense of our experiences.
I provide online sex and relationship therapy for individuals and couples throughout California. My work integrates relational, attachment-based, and nervous system-informed approaches to help clients better understand themselves, their relationships, and their capacity for connection.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist, I support individuals and couples navigating concerns related to intimacy, desire, sexuality, communication, relationship conflict, identity development, and emotional wellbeing.
Rather than approaching these experiences as problems to be fixed, therapy becomes an opportunity to develop greater awareness of the patterns shaping your life and relationships. Through this process, many people discover new ways of relating to themselves and others with greater clarity, flexibility, and self-compassion.

My clinical work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT), attachment theory, and nervous system regulation.
I am interested not only in what happens between people, but in the emotional and physiological processes that shape those interactions. When couples become caught in repetitive cycles of conflict or disconnection, there is often a deeper story unfolding beneath the surface.
Understanding these patterns can create new possibilities for connection, repair, and intimacy.
For individuals, therapy offers a space to explore the relationship between mind, body, sexuality, identity, and personal history.
Together, we examine how past experiences, cultural messages, attachment patterns, and nervous system responses may influence present-day challenges and opportunities for growth.
