Thoughtful, specialized therapy — accessible from anywhere in Colorado

I'm Elena Bahar, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist (CST) offering telehealth therapy to individuals and couples throughout Colorado.

My practice, Mindful Desire, is grounded in the belief that sexuality, intimacy, and emotional wellbeing are deeply interconnected — and that all of it deserves clinically informed, compassionate care.

I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and specialized sex therapy. While sex therapy is a core area of expertise, it is one part of a broader clinical practice.

Many of my Colorado clients come to therapy for anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, or life transitions — and find that questions of identity, intimacy, and desire naturally arise within that work.

Colorado has a growing and diverse mental health landscape, but access to AASECT-certified sex therapists remains limited outside major metro areas. Telehealth makes it possible for clients in Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Pueblo, Grand Junction, and rural Colorado to access the same level of specialized care — from a private, comfortable space of their choosing.

Individual Therapy in Colorado

Individual therapy provides a confidential, structured space to explore the psychological, emotional, and relational patterns shaping your experience.

Drawing on attachment theory, somatic approaches, and trauma-informed practice, therapy supports greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the capacity for meaningful connection — all accessible via telehealth from anywhere in Colorado.

Areas of focus

— Anxiety, depression, and mood dysregulation

— Trauma and post-traumatic stress (including complex and relational trauma)

— Life transitions, grief, and identity development

— Low self-worth, shame, and inner critic work

— Relationship patterns and attachment wounds

— Sexual identity, gender identity, and coming out

— Burnout, chronic stress, and nervous system dysregulation

Clinical approach

Sessions integrate somatic awareness, attachment-informed exploration, and evidence-based cognitive and relational approaches.

The therapeutic relationship itself is understood as a vehicle for healing — a secure, consistent space in which new relational experiences become possible.

Couples Therapy in Colorado

Couples therapy offers partners a structured, facilitated space to understand the dynamics keeping them stuck, rebuild emotional and physical connection, and develop the communication skills to sustain a secure partnership.

I work from the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT), developed by Dr. Stan Tatkin, which integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, and arousal regulation to help partners become each other's primary source of safety and support.

Areas of focus

—Recurring conflict and communication breakdown

—Emotional distance, disconnection, and loneliness within the relationship

—Desire discrepancy and sexual dissatisfaction

—Trust repair following infidelity or betrayal

—Navigating major life transitions together (parenthood, relocation, illness)

—Differences in attachment style and emotional needs

—Premarital counseling and relationship preparation

—Ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, and non-traditional relationship structures

Clinical approach

I work with couples across all relationship configurations — married, unmarried, same-sex, queer, and consensually non-monogamous. The goal is not to preserve any particular relationship structure, but to help partners develop clarity, security, and the capacity to make conscious, informed choices together.

Sex Therapy in Colorado

AASECT Specialty

Sex therapy is a specialized form of psychotherapy that addresses the psychological, relational, and physiological dimensions of sexual concerns.

As an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist (CST), I provide clinically informed, shame-free care for individuals and couples navigating a wide range of sexual health concerns. All sessions are conducted verbally via telehealth — no physical examination or contact of any kind takes place in sex therapy.

Areas of focus

—Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) and low libido

—Female sexual interest/arousal disorder (FSIAD)

—Genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder (GPPPD), including vaginismus and dyspareunia

—Erectile dysfunction and delayed ejaculation (psychological contributors)

—Orgasmic disorder and anorgasmia

—Compulsive sexual behavior and out-of-control sexual behavior (OCSB)

—Sexual trauma, sexual shame, and post-assault recovery

—Kink, BDSM, and alternative sexual expression (affirming, non-pathologizing)

—Sexual identity and orientation exploration

—Intimacy and desire concerns within relationships

—Paraphilias and sexual interests causing distress

Clinical approach

My approach is grounded in AASECT ethical standards, the biopsychosocial model of sexual health, and a sex-positive, affirming framework.

I do not pathologize consensual adult sexuality. Where appropriate, I may recommend collaboration with pelvic floor physical therapists, gynecologists, or other medical providers as part of an integrated care approach.
